Join us May 22 for a community-wide celebration of Israel's birthday. We'll bring together a full day of film, music, food, speakers and activities for the whole family. Highlights include (call for times):

  •  Screening of Land of Genesisfilm LAND OF GENESIS
    Suitable for children 10 and older
    See Israel in a beautiful new way, moving through amazing landscapes and changing seasons with wolves, water cats, ibex and other mammals, birds, reptiles and insects. (Time: 11:00 am)

  •  Shalom Sesame
    This brand-new, specially prepared English language version of the Israeli Sesame Street is perfect for young families. (Time: 11:00 am)

  • Bridge of Books
    We're collecting new and gently-used children's books for the English-language library in Bet Shemesh, our sister community. (Time: All Day!)

  • JNF speaker Ra'anaan Gissin in Hebrew -- Join our Mifgash conversation group as they meet with a former spokesperson for Ariel Sharon b'ivrit. (Time: 12:30 pm)

  • "Taste of Israel" by the Women of Bet ShemeshIsraeli Salad
    See the preparation and sample the results of traditional and ethnic Israeli foods.(Time: 20-minute sessions from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm)

  • Krav Maga Demonstration
    Get an introduction to this uniquely Israeli version of martial arts and self-defense. Age 18 and up only. Maximum 50 people, register in advance. (Time: 2:00 pm)

    Dramatic readings of short stories by Israel's outrageous Etgar Keret (The Nimrod Flipout, The Busdriver Who Wanted to Be God) (Time: 2:00 pm)

  • Israeli Artist Amira ChadwickIsraeli Artist Amira Chadwick talks about her work in a special Off The Wall artist's conversation. Her exhibit will take place in front of the glass wall of in the Distrikt Bistro Cafe and in the library.  (Time :  3:30)

  • Instant Ulpan
    A two-hour crash course in basic Hebrew to get you ready for that summer trip to Israel, or to try to "break your teeth" on some essential Israeli idioms. (Time: 4:00 - 6:00 pm)

  • Screening of Mom, I Didn't Kill Your Daughter
    A poignant documentary about an Israeli transgender couple that struggles to become what they were meant to be in a world that doesn’t understand them. (Time: 4:30 pm)
  • Hebrew University Reunion and Wine Tasting
    Come remember the best semester of your life and enjoy some Israeli wine.(Time: 4:30 pm)

  • After Party for Young Professionals with Israeli Ethnic Cuisine & Wine Tasting
    A pre-party to sample Israel's greatest fruits of the vine before the Axum concert.

  • AxumAxum in Concert
    This explosive duo delivers a Tel Aviv fusion of hip-hop, reggae and funk on our special Q Street Stage outside in our parking lot. Their contagious beats and smooth flow are guaranteed to get you up and moving. (Time: 8:00 pm)
