Everything But The Turkey 2020

Food Packaging for DC Central Kitchen - VIRTUAL

Why: Food insecurity has risen exponentially due to the pandemic. As every year, we are proud to support our partner, DC Central Kitchen, in providing food assistance to individuals and families in the DC metro area.

What: Help make packages of dry goods (consisting of rice and beans) at your house that you drop off at the EDCJCC. You will receive exact instructions with ingredients and quantities via email. The packages will be distributed to clients by our partner, DC Central Kitchen.

When: You are welcome to create the food packages any time but please drop them off at the EDCJCC on Sunday, November 22, between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM

Registration: This activity is free but registration is required in order to help DC Central Kitchen track how many packages they will be receiving. Please note, you are registering for your household, not for the number of bags you will be making (one household = one ticket). We ask that you commit to making a minimum of 3 packages, which should cost about $12. The registration process will ask you to estimate about how many bags you will be donating. Click the "Sign Me Up!" button or the ticket icon to the right to continue to registration.

Safety precautions: Please wear a mask at all times when dropping off your finished packages. Please wash hands thoroughly and wear a hat with hair pulled back away from your face when making the food packages at home.

Take the Advocacy Pledge: Along with creating food packages at home we hope you'll "take the advocacy pledge" to end food insecurity around the US with our partners at MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger. If you sign up to take the pledge, you will receive a packet with an interactive "placemat" activity (appropriate for both children and adults) that will teach you more about the root causes of food insecurity as well as postcards to mail to elected officials that encourage them to take legislative action to end this injustice. It's completely free to participate!
