star wars the torah awakens

Is there Judaism in Star Wars? "Search your feelings; you know it to be true!" Don't think so? "I find your lack of faith disturbing."

Clearly, "much to learn you still have." Join us for a light-hearted evening discussion with fellow Star Wars fans. We'll review favorite scenes and themes from the Star Wars movies and see how they align with ancient Jewish texts.

Bring your questions, fan theories, and skepticism. Light sabers, ability with the force, and prior knowledge not required (though some familiarity with the Star Wars universe may be helpful).

Instructor

Dr. Alan Gersch earned a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Maryland and a Master’s in Computer Science from Columbia University. He studied Judaics at Yeshivat Kerem B'Yavneh and Yeshivat Har Etzion, and has taught Bible and Talmud in his community for over two decades. He is a Research Associate for the Digital Mishnah project of the UMD Jewish Studies Dept./MITH, and he's been studying Star Wars for far longer than the stars.
