What do Schumann and Bartok have in common with Chick Corea and Benedikt Brydern? All were greatly influenced by the folk music of their respective homelands. Hear Schumann’s passionate Piano Quartet Op. 47, Bartok’s fiery duos for two violins, Chick Corea’s rock/jazz fusion and Brydern’s witty Bebop for Beagles. Virtuosic couple and Levine faculty artists cellist Vasily Popov and pianist Ralitza Patcheva team up with the dazzling violin/viola duo marcolivia (Marc Ramirez and Olivia Hajioff). Part of Levine’s Folk Music Reimagined: Culture, Tradition, Fusion series.

The world-renowned songwriting team of composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Lorenz Hart gave the world more than 500 songs between 1919 and 1943. Their collective body of work is heavily drawn upon by jazz musicians and celebrated for exceptional creativity, musicality and mass appeal. Hear this music performed in a unique collaboration between Levine School of Music and members of Howard University's a cappella group Afro Blue.
