8th Annual, End-of-Summer
GLOE Pool Party
'60s Beach Bash!
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington
Sunday, August 25, 2013
Advance (til 8/21): $10
Volunteer: FREE (arranged in advance)*
Beat the DC summer heat with GLOE at this friendly summer social! This weekend is also the 50th anniversary of the historic March on Washington, and we want to honor all the major civil rights accomplishments... so we're going to be enjoying the 1960s where it began!
Take a dip in the pool, play some beach games, and enjoy great refreshments while chatting with new and old friends.
We'll also have plenty to connect us to this civil rights milestone - both by looking back and also looking forward to issues of concern for our Jewish and LGBTQ communities.
Your ticket includes:
♥ unlimited food and drinks (yes, that includes beer, wine, and other options)
♥ swimming, games, and plenty of space to kick back and/or schmooze
♥ plus unlimited end-of-season frolicking with all of DC's fab LGBT Jews...
We are happy to return to the beautiful home of GLOE Founder Stuart Kurlander and David Martin for this annual tradition. (The exact address will be emailed to you upon registration.)

Want to attend the party for free?
We're happy to have the volunteer help to make sure everything runs smoothly! (Don't worry, you'll still have plenty of time to relax and enjoy, too.) Please email email@example.com by Wednesday, August 21 (subject: Pool Party volunteer), and we'll get you signed up. Thanks!
Frequently Asked Questions
I'm interested in coming, but worried because I don't know anyone. Can you help?
Yes! Let us know in advance and we'll put you in touch with a friendly GLOE person who is attending.
Or, just come up and introduce yourself to someone with a Glambassador (GLOE Ambassador) badge, and they'll be happy to chat and introduce you to people!
Do I have to swim?
Nope! Those who would like to swim can swim. For those who don't want to swim, there will be plenty of other diversions (including beach paddle ball; a pool table; and plenty of both indoor and outdoor spaces to sit and chat).
What should I wear?
You are welcome to wear whatever you are comfortable wearing (for swimming or just hanging out), as long as you are wearing something! The atmosphere is super-casual.
What about the food? Is it kosher?
with all DCJCC events, the food we serve is kosher. The food is milchig/dairy, with vegan options. There will be healthy food, junk food, and lots in between.
To attend, do I have to be LGBTQ? Jewish? Religious? Non-religious?
Nope. We welcome everyone who would like to come to this social event. Many of our LGBT Jewish pool-partiers bring lots of friends, so there are always a great mix of people. If you are friendly and want to connect with others in the community, you are welcome.
How do I get there?
The party is in the Wesley Heights neighborhood of Northwest, DC. (The exact address will be emailed upon registration.)
The easiest way is to drive.
Some people take the Metro to Tenleytown Metro Station (Red Line), and then take a short taxi from the station. (If you prefer to continue on to the bus from the subway, please see wmata.com for more info in planning your trip. It will be about a 20-minute walk from the bus stop to the house.)
If you know others attending, please carpool!
If you need help finding a ride, please reach out on the Facebook event page.
If it rains, the party will still be ON! There is
plenty of room inside for festivities and a good schmooze.
For more information, please contact GLOE director Halley Cohen at 202-777-3253 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
NOTE: GLOE's 8th Annual Pool Party will take place at the home of Stuart Kurlander in Northwest, DC, not at the Washington DCJCC.
