Savyon Liebrecht's intense, lyrical, and emotionally complex stories have made her a best-selling writer in her native Israel. Her short fiction explores the everyday tragedies that stem from strained relationships between Arabs and Jews, women and men, and older and younger generations in present-day Israel. Liebrecht recently adapted her story "Apples from the Desert" for the theater (Apples is playing at Theater J this December and January). Join Savyon for a discussion about the interplay and ultimate independence of literature and theater. Savyon will also share the forces at play that led her from first crafting short stories to writing novels and ultimately plays.
Savyon Liebrecht is the author of the novel A Man and a Woman and a Man and many story collections, including Apples from the Desert—all critically acclaimed and bestsellers in Israel. She is a frequent visitor to the United States, where she gives readings and lectures in universities and elsewhere. Liebrecht lives near Tel Aviv.
Praise for Apples from the Desert:
