Legacy: A Genetic History of the Jewish People

Who are the Jews? A race? A people? For over a century, both Jews and non-Jews have tried to pinpoint a collective Jewish identity, first through physical anthropology and more recently through population genetics. In Legacy, medical geneticist Harry Ostrer explores not only the history of these efforts, but also the insights that genetics has provided about the origins of contemporary Jewish people. Nadine Epstein, edis-2ostrer-043012.jpgtor and publisher of Moment Magazine, will sit down with Ostrer to discuss population genetics and the role of genetic legacy in determining our individual and group identities.

Harry Ostrer, M.D., is Professor of Pathology and Genetics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Director of Genetic and Genomic Testing at Montefiore Medical Center. He previously served as Director of Human Genetics at New York University School of Medicine.

Nadine Epstein, editor and publisher of Moment Magazine, has worked in journalism for over 25 years.

"For the specialist and anyone touched by the enduring debate over Jewish identity, this book is indispensable."-The Jewish Daily Forward
