Greek-born guitarist and bouzouki virtuoso Avram Pengas creates a rich musical palette rooted in the Mediterranean and the Middle East. A skilled arranger, Pengas draws upon both Eastern and Western rhythms in a dynamic, improvisational style that recalls American jazz. Since opening his nightclub, Noga, in the heart of Greenwich Village in 1979, he has performed in the off-Broadway production of Hot Klezmer, and has become a staple of New York’s downtown music scene.

The world-renowned songwriting team of composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Lorenz Hart gave the world more than 500 songs between 1919 and 1943. Their collective body of work is heavily drawn upon by jazz musicians and celebrated for exceptional creativity, musicality and mass appeal. Hear this music performed in a unique collaboration between Levine School of Music and members of Howard University's a cappella group Afro Blue.
