Behrend Builders Dance Studio Renovation

Date:
Sunday, October 7, 2018
Time:
10:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Location:
Address provided after registering

Therrell Smith, who turned 101 years old this year, has been teaching ballet virtually all her life, and in her own studio in DC since 1948. While the city was still deeply segregated, Ms. Smith offered ballet lessons to children of color who would otherwise never gotten the chance to learn how to dance. Today, she has been working to re-open her dance studio and offer lessons to at-risk children once again after a flood damaged the space in 2016. Join Behrend Builders to work on mold remediation and repaint the walls of the studio so Ms. Smith can start providing ballet lessons once again!

No prior experience in painting or construction is necessary, and all materials and supplies will be provided.

Please note all volunteers must be 14 and over to participate, no exceptions. The address of the dance will be provided upon registration.

We request a $20 tax-deductible program fee to help us cover the costs of supplies. If this is prohibitive to your participation please email Randy Bacon at randyb@edcjcc.org.
