Drag Story Hour with Mrs. Kasha Davis of RuPaul's Drag Race The Ina and Jack Kay Community Hall at the Edlavitch DCJCC
No tea, no shade! Join Mrs. Kasha Davis of RuPaul’s Drag Race for a decidedly different kind of “reading” – this time in the form of children’s book Derek the Knitting Dinosaur by Mary Blackwood, a tale about a little green dinosaur with a fondness for knitting, who is an embarrassment to his brothers until he uses his talents to help them out.
This drag story hour will feature Mrs. Kasha Davis (whose alter ego, Ed Popil, is a real-life LGBTQ parent) reading children’s books in campy, kid-friendly homage to the Jewish tradition of storytelling to impart communal values like acceptance and kavod (respect), followed by a dance party and craft activity for participants to take home. The story hour will provide kids with encouragement to embrace differences within themselves and others, and simultaneously serve as support for parents and family members.
Tickets are free with pre-registration; attendees are encouraged to bring a children’s book to donate for inclusion in Comfort Cases® that are given to children entering foster care.

Rainbow Families supports, connects, and empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) parents and prospective parents in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) by providing educational, social, and supportive programs, events, and resources.
Rainbow Families is the leading organization for all LGBTQ parents, prospective parents, and our allies in the DMV.
The Kurlander Program for GLBTQ Outreach & Engagement (GLOE) at the Edlavitch DCJCC connects LGBTQ Jews (and our friends and allies) with programs throughout the year, across the arts and literature, social justice and community service, holidays, and social events.
We also host events specifically geared toward LGBTQ youth and LGBTQ-parented families, providing opportunities all year long to create community through our ground-breaking GLOE Youth & Family initiative.
Founded in 2006 by Stuart S. Kurlander, GLOE is the first and only full-time LGBTQ program at any Jewish Community Center (JCC) in the world. Whether your Jewish identity involves creating new LGBTQ rituals, or if it starts and ends with a bagel at brunch, you'll fit right in at GLOE.
Comfort Cases® was established in October 2013 with the mission to provide comfort and dignity to those entering the foster care system. With the initial hope of helping hundreds of children and youth in the Washington, D.C. metro area, in four years Comfort Cases has delivered more than 25,000 cases to children in 24 states. Comfort Cases is currently planning a nationwide expansion to provide support and services to foster children in all 50 states.
