After Dark: A Community-Wide Shavuot Celebration

We'll start the night with a conversation about the history of cheesecake- including a demonstration. Don't worry, you'll get a chance to enjoy this traditional Shavuot treat before break-out sessions start.

AFTER DARK SCHEDULE
8:30pm- Doors Open
9:00-10:00pm It's All About the Cheesecake with Moment Magazine
10:00-10:30pm- Treat Break
10:30-11:30pm- Breakout Sessions

It's All About the Cheesecake with Moment Magazine
Why do Shavuot and cheesecake just go together so well? Sala Levin of Moment Magazine explores the history of this delicious dairy dessert with chef and writer Susan Barocas. And since you can't just talk cheesecake, they'll be demonstrating a to-die-for recipe too!

Breakout Sessions Include:

  • Girls in Trouble Curriculum: Book of Ruth with Sara Shalva, Director of Jewish Innovation at the Edlavitch JCC
Delve into a musical exploration of the Book of Ruth using a brand new curriculum by Alicia Jo Rabins’s indie-folk project Girls in Trouble.

  • Torah Your Rabbi Didn't--and Wouldn't--Teach You in Hebrew School with Rabbi Eric Stark
Torah is full of stories, not all of them cute and innocent. Together we’ll explore a few of the more troubling of these stories to see what they can teach us about our understanding of God and humanity. Bring only your own opinions (or those of a friend).

  • Cocktails and Commandments with Spirited Cocktail Connoisseur Emily Landsman
Emily Landsman will be showing off three original cocktails with a Shavuot twist. Not only will you learn how to make these delicious treats, you’ll get to taste them as well!
