Tu B'Shpot: The Jewish Case for Medical Cannabis
Takoma Wellness Center

Ordained at Hebrew Union College in 1981, Rabbi Jeffrey Kahn served four congregations during his thirty-year career, though he’s now known by some as the “Marijuana Reform Rabbi” for his advocacy efforts supporting patients’ medical access to cannabis. Joined by his wife, Stephanie, Rabbi Kahn spent much of the '80s and '90s at the frontlines of HIV/AIDS activism, providing pastoral care and services to LGBTQ men and women being affected by the epidemic. His rabbinical interpretation of the Jewish commandment to relieve suffering has long guided his work, and has stuck with him in his new role as a founder of the Takoma Wellness Center, Washington, DC's only family-owned medical marijuana dispensary.

In honor of Tu B'Shevat (the Jewish New Year for Trees), Rabbi Kahn has graciously agreed to a conversation with the local queer Jewish community focused on his understanding of Jewish teaching toward cannabis in the Tanach and in Halacha, and provide an overview on the state of cannabis in DC and Maryland, as well as in Israel, a world leader in medical cannabis research and development. He will also lead a tour of his facility, and answer questions related to enrolling in the District of Columbia’s Medical Marijuana Program.

Join GLOE at Takoma Wellness Center (one block from the Takoma Metro station) on Saturday afternoon, February 18.  Tickets are $10.  Takoma Wellness Center provides convenient, free on-site parking and access to the Takoma Metro Station across the street. The center's ground floor location is easily accessible to all.
