WJFF Year Round- Cast a Giant Shadow
Cast A Giant Shadow
Dir. Melville Shavelson (138min, USA, 1966).
Playwright and Theater J Artistic Director Ari Roth will be joined onstage by Anton Goodman, Israel Engager Shaliach to the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, for a post-screening discussion.
Join us for a special retrospective screening of the 1966 Kirk Douglas classic Cast A Giant Shadow. The film tells the triumphant story of Mickey Marcus, an American general who is called to the new state of Israel to build an army for the 1948 war. Part war story, part romance, and all gloriously schmaltzy! The film features prominently in Theater J's new performance of Ari Roth's Andy and the Shadows, with Mickey Marcus taking on the dual role of being a shining foil to Andy Glickstein's father, and an over-the-top symbol of unattainable myth.
The film features an all-star cast, including Kirk Douglas, Senta Berger and Angie Dickinson, as well as Yul Brynner, John Wayne and Frank Sinatra in notable supporting roles.
Co-presented by Theater J and the National Museum of American Jewish Military History
