This Sukkot, don't just tell LGBTQ youth that it gets better — make it better!
The Jewish holiday of Sukkot commemorates the forty year period when the children of Israel wandered the desert, living in temporary dwellings, searching for a permanent home. In our city today, LGBTQ youth make up 40% of homeless youth – putting them at significantly higher risk of becoming homeless than their straight peers. Sukkot reminds us of that time when we also had no stable home, no solid roof overhead.
We’re coming together to help Casa Ruby with a construction project. Casa Ruby is the only bilingual, multicultural, LGBTQ organization providing life-saving services and programs to the most vulnerable in the LGBTQ community in DC – through their Community Center and their newly acquired home for homeless LGBTQ youth.
From painting to building and organizing, all skill levels are welcome!
Presented by the DCJCC’s GLOE, EntryPointDC, and Behrend Builders
Space is limited: 15 people max
Cost: $15
The cost helps us subsidize a small portion of the materials used in this project. Thank you for helping us make this project happen for some of the most vulnerable members of our community!
