This is a course in the Yiddish language (listening, speaking, and reading) for beginners. We will be using proverbs, songs, jokes, video-clips, dialogues, and guided conversational practice to learn to understand and speak basic Yiddish. We will cover talking about yourself and your family, your job, your languages, and your likes and dislikes.  No background in Yiddish is assumed, but you must be willing to learn new things, practice orally in pairs, attend regularly, and put in a sustained effort. All materials will be provided both in printed Yiddish and in Latin script, if you have no knowledge of the Aleph-Bet/Alefbeyz you will be responsible for studying provided materials outside of class. We will offer one optional extra session/crash course in the Alefbeyz depending on class interest after the first session.
