Conscious Cravings: Eating Right for Ourselves and Our World
Washington DCJCC

Dear Volunteer,

Conscious Cravings: Eating Right for Ourselves and Our World A Talk by Devora Kimelman-Block

7:30 pm, Wednesday, October 14, 2009
Washington DC JCC

To celebrate the Sukkot and the beginning of the harvest, we should eat in a way that honors the earth and honors the life that was taken in order for us to eat. In this session we will discuss why sustainable, non-industrial meat and other organic food is vital for our health, our ethics and our world. We will also discuss the new Magen Tzedek ethical certification standards.

Devora Kimelman-Block is the founder of KOL Foods, a Washington-based business which sells kosher, sustainably-raised meat throughout the East Coast.   "Everyday we work to create a new food system that supports sustainable animal production, treats farmers and workers fairly, and improves the health of families, communities and environment," she writes in their mission statement.  "We believe that what is good for the planet is good for the body and the spirit."

This program is sponsored by the Community Supported Agriculture Program of the Washington DC JCC and DC Minyan.
