Norton’s directorial debut takes a lighthearted but sincere approach to modern-day faith in this fantastically funny romantic comedy. Best friends since childhood, Rabbi Jake Schram (Ben Stiller) and Father Brian Finn (Ed Norton) are thrown for a romantic loop when a third childhood friend moves back to New York. Both men are tempted by the stunning Anna (Jenna Elfman) though neither can truly pursue a romantic relationship with her; Brian has taken a vow of celibacy and Jake would not be able to marry Anna because she’s not Jewish. The desire to rejuvenate their faith is a common goal of both men, yet both respect the traditions and customs of their faith when it comes to love and marriage. Anna’s presence however, also rejuvenates these men of faith in unexpected ways.
