Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the profoundly influential Rosenwald Fund established in October, 1917 by the visionary Chicago philanthropist Julius Rosenwald, Director Aviva Kempner presents the DC premiere of her brand new 2-disc DVD Package of Rosenwald, containing 39 new bonus features.

This evening’s program will consist of screenings of clips from the new DVD features, which will be interspersed with panel discussions on topics ranging from the lynching of Leo Frank in Atlanta; the Chicago riots of 1919; the Rosenwald family’s rescue of 300 family members from the Nazis; the historical involvement of Jews in the formative years of the NAACP; Rabbi Emil Hirsch’s inspirational philosophy; and the DC-oriented histories of two Rosenwald Fund grantees: the innovative Dr. Charles Drew and provocative poet Langston Hughes.

Panelists include author Stephanie Deutsch; Ambassador Stuart E. Eizenstat; civil rights lawyer Leslie Harris; daughter of Dr. Charles Drew, Charlene Drew Jarvis; author Gary Krist; activist poet Ethelbert Miller; Chicago Tribune Columnist Clarence Page; Rabbi David Saperstein; NAACP Washington Bureau Director, Hilary Shelton; and Julius Rosenwald’s great grandson, David Stern.
