Jillian is a genetic anthropologist with a mission — her mother started to decline from early-onset Alzheimer’s when she was a few years older than Jillian is now--and she knows she carries the gene. When she gets the chance to study the isolated Havasupai tribe of the Grand Canyon she jumps at the chance, hoping that genetics will solve the mystery of the tribe’s skyrocketing rates of diabetes and help her to establish her own scientific legacy.
But when her research pushes beyond what was promised, Jillian realizes she’s put everything in jeopardy: her career, her relationship with her husband and daughter, and her own elusive future.
