girls and booksThe DC Books to Prisons Project provides a critical link between citizens who are incarcerated and those outside prison walls by sending donated reading material to prisoners and educating the public about issues surrounding prisoner education and literacy.

Who Are We?
Since 1999, a concerned all-volunteer group of individuals has been responding to requests from prisoners around the country for books. We also develop and support local prison libraries. Our work is done solely on donated time and resources.

What will you do when you volunteer?
Volunteers help pack up books to be mailed to prisoners depending on their requests. Some volunteers may also help read and sort through mail.

Are you a new volunteer for Books to Prisons?
If you're new to volunteering with Books to Prisons please come at 6:30 pm instead of 7:00 pm to attend an orientation. Thanks for joining us!

Where do we meet?
Volunteers should meet at 1500 16th St NW, Washington DC, 20036 (across the street and down the block from the 16th Street J), The Foundry United Methodist Church.

Once you get to the church (door on 16th St.) ring the doorbell to be let in, then go downstairs to the basement. Turn left, go to end of hall, then turn right, and we are the last door on the right after the bathrooms.

We're sorry, the deadline for registering for this event has passed.
