Grab some post-Passover craft beers with us as we delve into the awesome rabbinic traditions of telling tall tales far beyond the Torah!

Midrash are rabbinic stories that explain stories in Torah or depart from the text to create new tales. Join Rabbi Jessica Lott, who we loved at Four Rabbis Walk Into a Bar, for some two-by-two specials and to explore just a few of the many stories we've told about Noah and his Ark over the years, from Talmudic times to the just-released Russell Crowe Hollywood epic.

Resources:
Interested in the original text? A great translation of the story of Noah from Genesis is here- it's pretty short, so there's been a lot for rabbis to fill in over the years.

What are midrash? More info here.

The latest midrash- Check out the trailer for the new Hollywood movie, just to give you an idea, and see it before we meet if you can (showtimes here)!

jessica lottRabbi Jessica Lott, Maryland Hillel’s Associate Director for Jewish Life and Learning, got her Jewish start at camp and in youth group. She loves to teach Torah to all kinds of people- from toddlers to seniors, at synagogues and summer camps, on Israel trips, in interfaith dialogue groups, at urban medical clinics, and on college campuses. It was her interest in stories, how we tell them, and what we learn from hearing and telling them that led her to become rabbi, and it was a deep investment in innovation and pluralism lead her to Hillel.  In her spare time (ha!) she likes to ride her bicycle, read, do New York Times crossword puzzles, and make up band names.
