The Edlavitch JCC offers six levels of conversational Hebrew, from learning the aleph bet to reading advanced literature. Our teachers are native Hebrew speakers with many years of teaching experience. They regularly tweak their classes to fit the needs and interests of their students. Classes are offered Wednesday evenings in 12-week sessions. Each class is one hour.

Levels 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 require the textbook Hebrew From Scratch (Part 1)- you can purchase a new copy of the textbook at the time of registration.

Level 1 - Aleph
Beginners! This is the class for you if you need to learn the aleph bet (Hebrew alphabet) and start building your vocabulary. Students with a basic knowledge of the aleph bet but very little or no vocabulary or grammar experience should sign up for this level as well.

Level 2 - Bet
Students who have completed Level 1 OR know the aleph bet, can read, and have started to gather vocabulary and grammar.

Level 3 - Gimel
Students who have completed Level 2 OR have some vocabulary and a grasp of grammar

Level 4 - Dalet
This level focuses on building vocabulary, improving reading, and conducting conversation in present tense. It introduces verb conjugation the future and the past tense.

Level 5 - Hey
This level focuses on building vocabulary, improving reading, and conducting conversations in past and future tenses.

 Level 6 - Vav
Ready to challenge your Hebrew skills? In this student-driven class you may start reading the works of well-known Israeli authors in the original Hebrew or talk current events and politics.
