On Pride Shabbat GLOE is hosting a Sabbath lunch for the LGBTQ Jewish Community. Rabbi Steve Greenberg (the first openly gay orthodox rabbi) will be joining as a special guest.
After the lunch please join us for more in depth studying with Rabbi Greenberg. Rabbi Greenberg will lead the following discussion:
Wrestling with God and Men: Four Rationales for the Biblical Prohibition
Two verses in Leviticus have authorized a harsh rejection of homosexuality. Why? Rules cannot be intelligently and fairly applied without a sense of their intended aims. We will explore four rationales for the prohibition of sex between men which appear in the traditional literature-each offering a different perspective and a different frame for a reconsideration of the law’s application.
At the end of the afternoon, we will make our way to the GLOE assembly point for the Pride March! Please sign up to march with GLOE and to reserve a T-shirt.
