Environmental Sunday Skill Building Club

This year the EDCJCC would like to introduce vocational clubs. Are you looking to learn a new skill? This year we will have a Jewelry making club and Environmental club. Clubs will be held the first Sunday of each month starting in October. Sunday Skill Building Clubs will be followed by a free Zumba Class. You pick one club to attend. We will work on developing skills to support independent living.  Each club will have an educational component.

Our Environmental Club will be run by Darya. Darya is the Jewish Engagement Manager at the Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center, focusing on programming for families with young children. She is also a current JOFEE (Jewish Outdoor, Food/Farming and Environmental Education) Fellow with Hazon, a Jewish environmental nonprofit.

The Environmental Club will have an education component about current environmental issues, from agriculture to chemicals in personal care products, to interests in animal care. Each club will include an activity including planting seeds, making beeswax lip balm or bird feeders.  Our activity addresses the current environmental concerns during that day club.

The Jewelry club will be let by Jordana Merran is an avid arts-and-crafts'er — from pastel painting to decoupage — and has been making beaded jewelry since 2014. In 2017 she launched District Perle, selling handmade jewelry at DC area farmers markets. Outside of beading, she enjoys hobbies like figure skating and documentary film, contributes to local lifestyle site K Street Magazine, and works as a Communications Manager at Ocean Conservancy.

The Jewelry club will focus on a specific piece of Jewelry for each class. This includes earrings, pins, bracelets, and more. You will have creative ownership to design each jewelry piece to your liking. Our instructor will teach you the skills you need to independently design your on costume pieces.

Join us after Skill Building clubs for a free zumba class, and lunch. Bring a bag lunch.

Registration deadline is Wednesday, September 27th. This is a one time registration for the entire year.
