The DCJCC offers six levels of conversational Hebrew, from learning the aleph bet to reading advanced literature. Our teachers Naomi and Lorit are native Hebrew speakers with many years of teaching experience. They regularly tweak their classes to fit the needs and interests of thier students.

Classes are offered Wednesday evenings in eight-week sessions. Each class is one hour.

Textbook: You will need a textbook for all classes- the book is not included in registration costs. Levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 require the textbook Hebrew From Scratch (Part 1) and Level 6 requires Hebrew From Scratch (Part 2)- you can purchase a new copy of either textbook at the same time you register for class, just choose the textbook ticket option.

Level 1 (old Level 1) 
Beginners! This is the class for you if you need to learn the aleph bet (Hebrew alphabet) and start building your vocabulary
6:00pm - 7:00pm    
Teacher: Naomi McNally

Level 2 (old Level 2A)
Students who have completed Level 1 OR know the aleph bet and can read but have a little vocabulary
7:00pm - 8:00pm
Teacher: Naomi McNally

Level 3 (old Level 2B)
Students who have completed Level 2 OR have a limited vocabulary and a basic grasp of grammar
8:00pm - 9:00pm
Teacher: Naomi McNally

Level 4 (old Level 3)
This level focuses on building vocabulary, improving reading, and conducting conversation in present tense.
6:00pm - 7:00pm
Teacher: Lorit Chai

Level 5 (old Level 4)
Students work on reading comprehension with texts, stories, and newspaper headlines, as well as grammar exercises, including verb conjugation in the past and the future tenses. You'll be conversing comfortably in the present tense, practicing the past, and even starting the future!
7:00pm - 8:00pm

Level 6: Hebrew Conversation and Literature  (old Level 5)
You're ready for the deep end! Read newspaper articles and short stories from Hebrew literature and discuss current events and cultural issues in Hebrew. You'll be conversing in all three tenses.
8:00pm - 9:00pm

If you only know the aleph bet you may want to take Level 1 to start building vocabulary and get a good review of the letters. Level 2 is possible, but it may be a challenge
