Grab a blanket, pack your picnic dinner, and invite a friend: we’re having havdalah on the beach*!

Celebrate the middle of summer (and the closing of Shabbat) with a sundown havdalah ritual and picnic. DC’s LGBTQ Jewish community comes together twice a year for Shabbat – and this time it’s to mix and eat and enjoy nature.

YOU bring the picnic supplies; WE'LL get everything for havdalah (including the wine) and dessert!

THE NIGHT:
We’ll start with some casual time for dinner on the picnic blankets, schmoozing, and free time for any games you want to bring to the park.
Then we'll practice this age-old custom of closing Shabbat with friends and family. Rabbi Laurie Green of Bet Mishpachah, together with members of our community, will lead us through the short ritual of lighting the braided havdalah candle, smelling the spices, and more.

Join us to begin the new week (or your Saturday night) in a warm and friendly atmosphere!

*Sure, when they named it P Street Beach, they were interpreting the term "beach" loosely, but who are we to judge? There will be flowing water, a beautiful field, and the sunset. Works for us.

Presented by GLOE and Bet Mishpachah
Thank you to our Community Partners: Gayyim, Nice Jewish Boys, and Nice Jewish Girls

All are welcome at Havdalah on the Beach, regardless of ability to pay.

As always, interpretation is gladly provided. Please give us as much advance notice as possible so we can make sure appropriate arrangements can be made to make the event accessible to all.
