Black Over White, featuring the popular multi-cultural Israeli band, the Idan Raichel Project. When a concert tour takes two members of the band back to Ethiopia for the first time since leaving as children, they experience a surprising flood of emotions. The cathartic power of music pulls the band back from the brink as their grooves and moves bring the house down in a sold-out concert in Addis Ababa. Israel, 2007, video, documentary, 56 minutes. Director: Tomer Heymann English, Hebrew, Amharic with English subtitles
Like a Fish Out of Water follows Marcelo, a recent emigrant from Argentina to Israel who has found the perfect job on an Israeli soap opera. The only catch is that he must speak Hebrew without a Spanish accent. Enter Anat, an Orthodox Jewish woman who teaches Hebrew. Multiple layers of comedy and romance ensue, as both Marcelo and Anat get caught up in each other’s lives, with a little help from their “families.” Israel, 2006, video, feature, 50 minutes, Director: Leon Prudovsky Hebrew with English subtitles
Co-sponsored by Israel in DC, the Embassy of Israel and the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington
