Considered
by MoMA as one of the most innovative films of 2013, Footsteps
in Jerusalem is an anthology of ten short films that collectively
offer an evocative portrait of the city—its diversity, complexity, and rapid
transformation. It is also a tribute to the history of Israeli film, in
particular to David Perlov, the forefather of modern Israeli documentary
cinema, and to his 1963 revolutionary film In Jerusalem, made a few
years before the ’67 War, in a divided city. Renowned Israeli filmmakers—such
as David Ofek (No. 17, A Hebrew Lesson) and Nadav Lapid (Policeman)—as
well as current film students, respond to Perlov’s film (which appears here in
its entirety) and to the city of Jerusalem as it exists today.
